Inspire a Child – The Journey So Far

Every second children are born into the world, some will never succeed or see their dreams and aspirations become a reality, but the saddest are those who do not have dreams or can’t afford to because of the various challenges they face in life.

At times, just that little chance encounter with that person who believes in them, that single gesture, telling them “yes they can” or pointing them in the right direction is all it takes to change the course of a child’s life.

Inspire A Child is an annual global initiative established by FliplearnKids, Nigeria, bringing together individuals/entrepreneurs/educators/professionals from around the globe who have shown resilience in pursuing their dreams, to communicate with kids in Nigerian public schools right there in the classroom, and possibly, for those few minutes create a spark that would ignite a vision of future possibilities.

Inspire A Child is a virtual global event that brings together world class professionals, entrepreneurs and educators (of different ages) to inspire and rub minds with K-12 learners, right in their classrooms. This initiative is aimed at inspiring kids to dream big and aim to actualize their dreams.

This year, 2017, would be the second consecutive year of this annual event. In 2016, Inspire a Child hosted guests’ speakers from 5 continents and 10 countries: North America, Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia. They were from: Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, United States, India, Hong Kong, Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom.

The programme went live in 20 schools in Lagos Nigeria, this consisted of primary and secondary schools and close to 200 kids were engaged.

Some of the featured guests for IAC 2016 were Anthony Salicito: Vice President, Microsoft in Education-U.S.A, Prof. Pat Utomi: Founder, Centre for Value and Leadership, Nigeria, Ernestina Appiah: Founder, Ghana Code Club, Ghana, Melissa Loble: Vice President, Instructure- U.S.A, Jim Adams- N.A.S.A, Glenn Osianoh: Research Scientist-Germany (German Centre for International Collaboration (GIZ), Germany), Bejamin Lannen: Educator, Australia

The programme went live in 20 schools in Lagos Nigeria, this consisted of primary and secondary schools and 100 kids were engaged.

We all do not have the resource to travel out, Inspire a child 2016 session gave the kids an opportunity to see life beyond their classrooms, they engaged the guest speakers on areas that bothered around making the right choices, pressing on even when it’s tough and how to hold on to one’s passion.

The teachers were not left out, they learnt from the guest speakers that, educators play a big role in making an impact in the lives of their learners.
